About Fennel & Fifth

Fennel & Fifth is for people who want to grow some of their own food without a garden: in an apartment, a condo, a townhouse, a small house or on a balcony. We started with New York in mind, where a sunny windowsill is precious and the space under the kitchen cabinets is often all you get.

We're a product finder. We line up countertop gardens, hydroponic towers, grow lights, seed-starting gear, planters, seeds and kits by the measurements that decide whether they work in your home: how tall they get when grown, the floor or counter they take, the light they need, the watts, the noise, the weight, whether you can use them without drilling, and the pods, plant food or refills they need to keep growing.

What we promise

• Specs come from the maker's own page. If a number isn't published, we say "Not listed" rather than guess.
• Harvest and yield claims are the makers' words, and we say so.
• No brand or store pays to be listed or ranked.
• Growing and food-safety facts link to the extension service or agency they came from.
• We don't test products ourselves, and we never say we have.

How we're paid
